Incredible. Here it is, only January 7 and I have already seen the worst movie of the year. I turned on the tv this morning in a slight haze after hanging out at Black Bear's last night. As I've gotten older, its been tougher for me to sleep through my hangovers - once I get up, I'm up and cannot get back to sleep. So I flipped through the channels, through the Sunday morning political shows, and there it was - "UltaViolet." I have a problem (among many) and one of them is this compulsion to sit through and watch an entire movie, no matter how bad it is. I figure that if I invested the time to watch the first 15 minutes, I just have to watch the last hour and 45 minutes to see how bad the movie actually is. UltraViolet is bad, very bad. It is set in the 21st century where Violet, a vampire, finds herself the protector of a young human boy. As Princess will attest, I'm a semi-closeted fan of SciFi. (I hate when she announces in the middle of party that I watch Battlestar Galactica, for instance.) And while the movie was futureistic and there was a lot of killing, shooting and swordplay, it was simply not enough to get past the fact that the movie just sucked. That's a shame, because I like Milla Jovovich. I thought that Resident Evil was pretty good, in a bad way. It wasn't Academy Award material, but it would have been preferable to UltraViolet on a lazy Sunday morning. I would say that UltraViolet was more Fifth Element, which also sucked, than Resident Evil.
