During dinner my likeness to the main character from TV show House came up. “OG and House could be brothers” Princess said.

“Funny thing is.  He doesn’t like House.” Bee explained. “The first time we watched it OG said, This guy is an asshole.”  They all laughed at my hypocrisy.

MC added,“Yeah, except OG isn’t a medical genius.”

My mouth worked back and forth like a fish out of water, gulping silently for words.  Nothing came out though except stupid silence.

The topic moved to how woman will give each other compliments about loosing weight, even if they have put weight on.

Princess said, “Don’t give me that shit. Just don’t say anything at all.”  Some other friend she had complimented her on having lost weight she had not.

I thought this very curious behavior, “So woman will compliment each other even if they don’t mean it?”

“Sure.” The woman and MC said.

“Wow.” I uttered flatly and thought, how completely novel and useless. I’ve never been able to hand out gratuitous complements for the sake of bolstering someone’s vanity or poor self image. The words always fall out of my mouth like marbles. I gave up a long time ago. Maybe I should try again some time.

“Yes.” MC added.  “It’s low hanging fruit.”

“I’ve lost three pounds.” Bee explained.

“She took a big dump.” I told MC.

“Looks like four.” MC flattered Bee.

“See. Even that little lie made me feel better.” Bee said.

“Huh.” I said and ate my steak. It doesn’t matter if she is skinny, fat or in between. We’re married and that’s that. Besides my waist line has grown as well. I cleaned my plate and the conversation turned.
