Hell woke up. He was a handsome man of black hair, blue eyes and chiseled jaw. He rose like a fashion model from his bed of leather and silk and smiled as he dressed. Today was going to be a pleasure. He was going to murder me. I was startled awake in my stairwell hovel. I had fallen asleep drunk and curled up in ball under a staircase with my bottle of whiskey. Earlier in the night the janitors came rattling by with the garbage bin. It had clipped my legs. It hurt, but I was to drunk to wake or complain. The pain took me through to the vision of Hell. He was coming for me today. It was inevitable.
I knew it was coming and futile to run, but I tried anyway. I stumbled up from my sleep, hung over, and decide the stairs up to the roof tops was my best bet. At least when he found me I could be murdered under open skies, and not like a troll in cave. As I started up the stairs I could see a shadow coming down quietly like someone hunting. It was him, or one of his minions. I ducked back and pulled my weapon. It was a 45 automatic. A solid piece that had served me well in the past. The hunters’ shadow stopped when I suddenly stopped climbing the stairs. We played this game of dodging each others shadows for couple rounds, then I burst into the stairwell landing. I startled the minion. He leapt up a full flight of stairs, away in a gust of wind to the landing above. My gun clicked three times as though it were empty. The minion laughed, “You can’t kill us.” “I know.” I said as I checked the clip. It was full. “But I can cause some pain on my way down.” I slammed the clip back into place. “Or up!” The minion said as it suddenly grabbed me by the throat, crashed through the window and dragged me up the wall like an insect with its victim in tow. This was not going to be a good day. |
